Invisalign is a series of clear orthodontic aligners that can straighten your teeth without that obvious ‘braces’ look. Here, our Calgary orthodontists explain what Invisalign is, and how it works.
Invisalign Clear Aligners
Invisalign aligners are orthodontic devices made from durable, transparent plastic. Like metal braces, Invisalign clear aligners are used to gradually straighten teeth over a period of months or years.
Invisalign aligners do not use metal braces or brackets, making them a discreet and comfortable orthodontic treatment option.
What is Invisalign treatment process like?
Your series of clear Invisalign aligners will be custom made for you after an initial assessment with your orthodontist. The number of aligners you need will depend on the nature and severity of your misalignment. During treatment, you will wear your aligners full time throughout the day, and remove them only to eat, or brush and floss your teeth.
Over time, the aligners will gradually shift your teeth into place. Approximately every two weeks, you'll switch to the next set of aligners in your series, advancing you to the next stage of your treatment.
Invisalign aligners can be removed while you eat - With Invisalign, you can continue to enjoy your favourite foods and snacks during treatment. Just take your aligners our during mealtimes, and then pop them back in when you're done eating (just be sure to clean your teeth first!).
You can also take your aligners out during your oral hygiene routine - You can take your aligners out to brush and floss your teeth as well, so your oral hygiene routine will remain largely unchanged.
You don’t have to visit us as often! - We’re always happy to see you, but we understand that your life is busy, and that it isn't always easy to make time for adjustment appointments. Invisalign comes in a series of multiple aligners that you can change yourself at precise intervals throughout your treatment, so you don’t have to make time in your schedule to see us as often.
Your Invisalign aligners are made of clear, BPA-free plastic. This means that when you’re wearing them, they’ll be very difficult for other people to see. Your co-workers, your friends or your date may not even notice that you're undergoing orthodontic treatment!
